| | Blogging:
To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.
I like that definition. It leaves a lot left to be defined by whoever is doing the blogging. It's nice and general, completely open to ones individual tastes. Which means in short, that blogging is what we make of it.
Now, as made evident by the lack of recent updates, I'm not making much of my blog anymore. In fact, I've heard it said that "xanga is dead" and not many people post a lot these days. Ironically, blogging, which can be a great way to share with friends what's going on in your life and stay connected, was the most popular when the people who were doing it were already the most connected. Now that people have grown up and moved away, blogging (and when I say blogging, I'm referring mostly to xanga I believe) has steeply declined. So instead of conveniently maintaining connections through a medium that we've grown familiar with (which would seemingly be easy), such is not the case.
history
When I first got a xanga site, it was because wayne and cody told me that they had gotten them. I had no idea what the heck it even was (or how to spell it) but it sounded like the cool think to do, so I got one. I remember my first post, it went something like "I didn't now what xanga was, then I heard of it, it sounded cool, so now I have one" , and that was it. I wrote like practically every day back then (over three years ago). Just about whatever was going on that day (or that moment). Whatever, and it was cool. Everyone was doing it, slowly but surely practically anyone who was anyone from DOC or CFA got one.
So at first xanga was totally carefree... we just wrote whatever and it was great. And then... "the spiritual revolution of xanga" occurred. lol... Yeah, so that might be slightly exaggerated, but I like to look at it that way regardless. To be completely honest, I don't know when it happened, but xanga (for me anyways) became like a performance oriented kind of thing. I liked to write "good" entries that were either clever or spiritual or whatever so that people would comment on them. If I got a lot of people to comment on my xanga, I felt pretty good about myself. The best way to get a lot of comments was to do a "picture post" but I never really had any pictures worth posting, so I tried to just write well. And I must say that I did indeed write a lot of "good" entries a year or so ago when I was still writing. But after a while I just got really burned out and didn't have the time or energy to spend or writing on xanga anymore. So when I took a break, I found the longer I stayed away, the more people kept commenting and asking what was going on and why I wasn't writing. So that was cool, and after a couple months I decided to try writing again. But it just kind of never worked out. So if you could call xanga a phase, I was over it.
So aside from the occasional post, I haven't been writing much. I don't know if that will change or not (I have heard rumors that people want me to write again). Perhaps I will attempt to update more often (but no promises). Today I checked my email and saw that Chris and Lisa Lincoln started a blog and so that inspired me to write this whole mess (so don't get your hopes up that I might start writing more often).
But I must say... that going back and reading those early entries was quite entertaining. Three years ago my life was so different than it is now. So much has changed since the beginning of my xanga days (funny enough I wrote a ton about riding at first. my passion for that definitely hasn't changed at all). Back then people weren't getting married or moving away to go to college or so busy that the only way to find any free time is to compare google calendars. Growing up is such an interesting thing...
I'm not afraid of tomorrow I'm only scared of myself
